Centre

The Centre of Digital Humanities is an interdisciplinary centre at the University of Tartu, operating under the Institute of Estonian and General Linguistics. The head of the centre is Professor Liina Lindström.

The centre was first established in 2018 under the name Centre for Digital Humanities and Information Society (in Estonian digihumanitaaria ja infoühiskonna keskus) to give a wider profile to digital humanities at the University of Tartu and to promote interdisciplinary cooperation.

In order to expand digital humanities study possibilities, the centre has developed a digital field and an optional module with the help of the Information Technology Foundation for Education (HITSA). Teachers and students will be provided with ICT training, teaching materials will be created and published, summer schools and conferences will be organized, and research and opportunities related to digital humanities will be introduced. Through the centre, foreign lecturers have also participated in the study, mainly through the ASTRA support measure.

Since March 1, 2025, the 5-year project "Digital Text Scholarship" funded by European Commission is operating under the centre. The project is led by Professor Maciej Eder, a Visiting Professor of Digital Humanities at University of Tartu.
